Greece's unemployment falls to 8% in June
Greece's unemployment rate declined to 8% in June 2026, down from 9.2% a year earlier, according to figures released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
Despite the year-on-year improvement, unemployment edged up from 7.8% in May 2026, indicating a slight monthly increase.
The number of unemployed people stood at 381,769, a decrease of 58,363 people (13.3%) compared with June 2025. However, the figure increased by 12,345 people (3.3%) compared with the previous month.
Among women, the unemployment rate fell to 10.4% from 11.2% a year earlier, while unemployment among men declined to 6%, compared with 7.6% in June 2025.
By age group, unemployment among young people aged 15 to 24 rose to 19.5%, up from 18.6% a year earlier. In contrast, the unemployment rate for those aged 25 to 74 fell to 7.3%, compared with 8.6% in June 2025.
ELSTAT's Labour Force Survey also showed that employment increased to 4,389,230 people, up by 53,413 (1.2%) compared with June 2025 and by 16,465 (0.4%) from May 2026.
Meanwhile, the number of people under the age of 75 who were outside the labour force—meaning they were neither employed nor actively seeking work—declined to 2,941,499. This represented a decrease of 36,988 people (1.2%) compared with June 2025 and 33,042 people (1.1%) from the previous month.
