Greece’s unemployment rate fell to 8.1% in August 2025, down from a revised 9.7% in the same month last year, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

Greece’s unemployment rate fell to 8.1% in August 2025, down from a revised 9.7% in the same month last year, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). The figure also reflects a slight decline from the revised 8.3% recorded in July 2025.

The total number of unemployed individuals stood at 383,788 in August, showing a notable year-on-year decrease of 72,352 people, or 15.9%. Compared to July 2025, unemployment dropped by 11,542 individuals, or 2.9%.

The jobless rate among women declined to 10.6% from 11.8% in August 2024, while male unemployment also fell to 6.1% from 8%.

However, unemployment among young people aged 15–24 rose to 19%, up from 17.2% a year earlier. In contrast, the rate among those aged 25–74 dropped to 7.5%, from 9.3% in August 2024.

Employment figures also showed signs of resilience. The number of employed persons reached 4,337,315—an increase of 79,288 people (1.9%) compared to August last year. On a monthly basis, however, employment saw a slight dip, falling by 2,331 people or 0.1% compared to July 2025.
