While the percentage of motorcyclists who lost their lives in traffic accidents in Greece is well above the European average, it was concluded in the research that 69 per cent of the dead riders were not wearing helmets.

According to CNN Greece, the death rate of motorcyclists in Greece in particular is 38 per cent, while the European average is lower at only 18 per cent.

In the study, the percentage of motorcyclists killed in road accidents in residential areas is higher than in rural areas. While the rate is 20 per cent in residential areas in the EU, it reaches 45 per cent in Greece.

The percentage of motorcyclists wearing helmets is 80 per cent in Greece and 97 per cent in Europe. As for passengers travelling on motorcycles, the helmet wearing rate is 65 per cent in Greece and 95 per cent in the EU.

An important parameter that draws attention in the research is that the rate of motorbike drivers in Greece is higher than in the EU.

A motorcycle rider aged 18-24 is 10 times more likely to die than a passenger car driver of the same age.
