Interim prime minister Glavchev to form new caretaker government in Bulgaria
During a meeting at the Presidential Palace, President Radev emphasized the main duty of the new caretaker government: "The primary task of the new caretaker government will be to organize fair, honest, and transparent elections while preventing any form of electoral fraud. Let this be the priority of your administration."
President Radev stressed the importance of preventing "vote-buying and other corrupt practices" during the elections and gave Glavchev until August 26 to form the interim cabinet.
Radev mentioned that if Glavchev's government receives approval, a new snap general election could be scheduled for October 27.
The president had previously rejected a cabinet proposal submitted by Goritsa Gyncharova-Kojareva, Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian Court of Auditors, who was a nominee for the interim prime minister position.
Due to ongoing political instability in Bulgaria, where forming a government has been a challenge, voters will head to the polls for the seventh time in three years. Voter turnout, which was 34% in the last election, is expected to decline further in the upcoming election.
