Serbia's Vucic says he will not leave the country if ruling party loses election
Speaking to a Serbian television broadcaster, Vucic discussed the country's electoral timetable following his recent announcement that he intends to resign from the presidency.
He said parliamentary elections are expected to take place in October or November, while a presidential election could follow in December or in February next year.
Vucic, who previously served as leader of the SNS, said the ruling party would contest the election with a younger generation of candidates.
"I have no fear. Of course, the SNS could lose the election—that is a possibility. But even if we lose, I will not leave my country," he said.
President says he has received death threats
Vucic also said he had received death threats but did not feel he was in danger. He shared a video on social media showing a man allegedly threatening him with a knife.
In June, Vucic said he was considering stepping down as president to become his party's candidate for prime minister. Later that month, he announced that he would formally declare his resignation within a few weeks.
The Serbian president is also expected to announce the dates of the upcoming elections before stepping down.
