Türkiye, Greece, Bulgaria hold strategic security summit in Athens

A high-level trilateral security meeting between Türkiye, Greece and Bulgaria took place in Athens, bringing together senior officials to coordinate regional responses to irregular migration, terrorism, and organized crime.

The meeting—held under the framework of the Türkiye-Bulgaria-Greece Trilateral Mechanism—included Mustafa Çiftçi, Thanos Plevris and Emil Dechev.

Multi-Layered Strategy on Migration
In a statement shared via social media, Minister Çiftçi said discussions emphasized a comprehensive approach to irregular migration, ranging from tackling root causes in countries of origin to strengthening border security measures.

He underlined that coordinated action among the three countries is not only critical for national security but also contributes to the broader stability of Europe.

Deepening Security Cooperation
Beyond migration, the trilateral talks focused on enhancing joint efforts against terrorism and organized crime. The ministers highlighted the need to:

  • Expand intelligence and data sharing
  • Strengthen cross-border law enforcement coordination
  • Develop unified regional strategies

According to Çiftçi, the trilateral mechanism continues to serve as a robust platform for regional stability, reinforcing trust and cooperation among neighboring countries.

Regional Stability in Focus
The meeting reflects growing recognition that transnational threats require coordinated regional responses, particularly in Southeast Europe—a key corridor for migration flows and cross-border criminal networks.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular dialogue and advancing joint initiatives aimed at ensuring long-term security across the region.
