Zeybek criticizes Government's inaction on livestock farmers' struggles

New Left Party MP Hüseyin Zeybek has voiced strong criticism against the New Democracy government for its lack of response to the challenges faced by livestock farmers. Zeybek highlighted the financial hardships caused by the spread of small livestock diseases and rising feed costs, which have severely impacted producers in the region. He accused the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of failing to provide concrete answers to his parliamentary inquiry submitted on December 19, 2024 (Protocol No: 2339).
In a statement from his political office, Zeybek said:
“The Ministry has once again avoided giving specific responses to the pressing issues affecting farmers and feed producers in the Thrace region, despite the urgency of the situation.”
Zeybek’s inquiry included the following questions to the Minister of Agriculture and Food:
- What immediate measures does the Ministry plan to take to support farmers affected by prolonged livestock confinement and rising feed costs?
- What is the status of the request to the European Commission for subsidies to offset feed expenses, and when are these funds expected to be approved and disbursed?
- Is the Ministry considering providing free feed to address the urgent needs of farmers and prevent the risk of livestock loss?
- Will a special compensation program be introduced for feed producers and cooperatives struggling to sell their stocks?
Zeybek emphasized that the lack of a tangible response from the government is exacerbating the insecurity and despair of livestock farmers and feed producers, many of whom are now facing the risk of economic collapse due to capital shortages.
He called on the government to take immediate and meaningful action to support those affected and prevent the decline of the livestock sector in Greece.
