Western Thrace mayors attend KEDE extraordinary general assembly
The extraordinary general assembly of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE), with the New Local Government Code on its agenda, was held on Wednesday, December 17, in Athens. Western Thrace was represented by Kozlukebir Mayor Hüseyin Erdem, Yassıköy Mayor Caner İmam, and Mustafçova Mayor Ahmet Kurt.
The meeting took place at a hotel in Athens and brought together a large number of mayors and local government representatives from across the country. The main focus of the assembly was the new institutional framework aimed at restructuring the operation of local government bodies.
Participants exchanged views on the New Local Government Code and discussed the formation of common positions regarding its implementation and impact on municipalities.
In a statement following the meeting, Kozlukebir Mayor Hüseyin Erdem underlined the importance of the new regulation for local authorities, saying:
“The New Local Government Code is a critical tool for modernizing the functioning of municipalities. Our active participation in the dialogue process is of great importance for strengthening municipal autonomy and, in particular, for ensuring more effective services for citizens living in rural areas.”
The strong nationwide participation in the extraordinary assembly highlighted a collective willingness among local authorities to address shared challenges and identify common solutions, while also contributing to the shaping of policies that respond to the current needs of local communities.
