Former Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Dr. İsmail Rüstemoğlu passes away
Dr. İsmail Rüstemoğlu, a prominent figure within the Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association and former mayor of Gaziosmanpaşa, has passed away following a period of medical treatment.
Longstanding Public Service and Community Leadership
Rüstemoğlu was among the founding members of the association’s Gaziosmanpaşa branch and served as mayor of the district between 1989 and 1994. During his tenure, he played a significant role in local governance in Istanbul, contributing to the development of the rapidly growing district.
Known for his active involvement in civil society, Rüstemoğlu remained engaged in community affairs through his work with BTTDD, an umbrella organization representing Western Thrace Turks in Türkiye.
Hospitalization and Passing
He had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Istanbul after being admitted due to health complications. According to reports, he was intubated and remained in intensive care before his passing. During his hospitalization, messages of support poured in from residents of Gaziosmanpaşa and members of the wider community.
Funeral Ceremony and Burial
The funeral of Dr. Rüstemoğlu will take place on Sunday, March 29, following the noon prayer at the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Mosque. He will be laid to rest at the family cemetery in Topkapı Çamlık.
