Water-saving measures enforced in the Municipality of Bulustra
In response to ongoing drought conditions and an upcoming heatwave, the Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of Bulustra (DEYAA) has implemented strict water-saving measures to prevent shortages and avoid the water supply disruptions experienced last summer, particularly in coastal areas due to system failures.
Under the new rules, the watering of lawns is completely prohibited, while the watering of vegetable gardens is limited to drip irrigation systems and only outside peak hours (5:00 PM – 9:00 PM). Residents are also urged to reduce overall water consumption, especially during peak demand times.
If these measures prove ineffective or residents fail to comply, DEYAA warns that daily scheduled water cuts will be introduced.
DEYAA Announcement on Water Scarcity
As high temperatures and prolonged drought conditions persist, the availability of drinking water is at daily risk. In order to ensure uninterrupted access to potable water for all residents and visitors in the Municipality of Bulustra, the following measures have been adopted:
- Total ban on lawn watering.
- Vegetable gardens may only be watered via drip irrigation, and not between 17:00 and 21:00.
- Citizens are urged to limit water use, particularly between 17:00 and 21:00.
- Violations will result in a €250 fine.
- Additionally, checks for illegal water use will be intensified. Anyone found extracting water unlawfully will face a €1,500 fine and be reported to the police for theft of water, which will be prosecuted under immediate arrest procedures.
If the current measures fail to reduce consumption sufficiently, scheduled water supply interruptions will be enforced daily.
