Dendias highlights military housing and drone production
Defence Minister Nikos Dendias concluded a visit to Dimetoka (Didymoteicho), Dedeağaç (Alexandroupolis) and İskeçe (Xanthi), focusing on military housing, defence infrastructure and the expansion of domestic drone production.
In Dimetoka (Didymoteicho), Dendias visited the Holy Metropolis of Didymoteicho, Kumçiftliği (Orestiada) and Sofullu (Soufli), where he met Metropolitan Damaskinos, before inspecting new military housing under construction for Armed Forces personnel and their families.
24 homes nearing completion
The project includes 24 new housing units, with 12 in Dimetoka (Didymoteicho) and 12 in Kumçiftliği (Orestiada). Construction in Kumçiftliği (Orestiada) is more than 90% complete, with the homes expected to be handed over within the coming weeks.
The units form part of the Defence Ministry's nationwide Housing Programme, which envisages 17,484 modern homes for Armed Forces personnel and their families.
The programme includes the construction of 10,500 new homes, alongside the renovation and reallocation of around 7,000 existing units.
Drone production to expand
During his visit to Meriç (Evros), Dendias also met Metropolitan Anthimos of Alexandroupolis before travelling to the 316 Technical Area Workshop in Okçular (Toxotes), İskeçe (Xanthi).
He was briefed on progress in domestic drone production and plans to further increase manufacturing capacity.
Dendias also visited the headquarters of the 724 Engineer Battalion, which hosts one of eight reinforced-concrete component production units.
Agenda 2030 drives defence overhaul
Dendias said the Defence Ministry's Agenda 2030 is being implemented through both the expansion of the Armed Forces' capacity to produce drones and the creation of a mechanism to build defence infrastructure needed under current conditions.
He said the programme would also create an opportunity to reduce costs for Greek taxpayers by increasing domestic production and strengthening the country's defence capabilities.
