A large-scale police operation was carried out on Friday morning in Sofullu (Soufli), in the Meriç (Evros) region of northern Greece, resulting in around 20 detentions and arrests, including two members of the armed forces.

Special police units raided suspects’ homes as part of a centrally coordinated investigation based on evaluated intelligence. The operation was supported by drug-detection dogs. During the searches, officers seized cannabis, a metal knuckle duster, knives, a baton and the drug codeine, which were found in the possession of one of the arrested soldiers.

According to local media reports, the soldier—an enlisted professional—resisted arrest but was subdued and taken into custody.

All detainees are expected to appear before the prosecutor in Dedeağaç (Alexandroupoli), while the military personnel will be referred to the military court prosecutor in İskeçe (Xanthi).
