“We Stand by Its Legitimate Struggle”
In his message, Eren emphasized that the İskeçe Turkish Union—established as the first civil society organization of the Western Thrace Turkish minority—remains a cornerstone of community life.

He underlined continued support for the association’s legal efforts to use its official name, referencing rulings by the European Court of Human Rights.

“We once again stress that we stand by the union’s legitimate struggle to exercise its right to use its name in line with European Court of Human Rights decisions,” Eren said.

Anniversary Draws Broad Institutional Support
The 99th anniversary of the İskeçe Turkish Union has triggered strong backing from Türkiye, including prior messages from:

A Century-Long Role in Minority Representation
Founded in 1927, the İskeçe Turkish Union has long been viewed as a central institution representing the Turkish community in Western Thrace.

Its continued legal and social efforts—particularly regarding recognition of its name and identity—remain a focal point in broader discussions about minority rights and freedoms in Greece.

As the organization approaches its centenary, support from institutions like TİKA signals sustained international attention to its cause.
