Tapatzas provides update on New Komotini Hospital construction
Emmanuil Tapacas, the Deputy Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace responsible for the Rodopi region, provided an update on the construction progress of the new Komotini Hospital, which is currently underway.
The update was shared during an event organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation on December 3, 2024, in Komotini. The event was attended by several key figures, including Health Deputy Minister Marios Themistokleous, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Administrative Director Panos Papoulis, project team representatives, the construction contractor ABAX Group, and project manager Hill International.
Tapacas, representing Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor Hristodoulos Topsidis, shared details about the ongoing projects related to the new hospital, which include road network construction and other infrastructure works. He noted that approximately €5.5 million has been allocated for these projects, which aim to connect the new hospital to national, regional, and municipal networks.
The road construction is being managed by the Technical Projects Directorate of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region, with 80% of the road foundation and asphalting already completed. Additionally, around €1 million has been allocated to finance public infrastructure connections, including connections to the medium-voltage electrical grid, natural gas network, telecommunications, and internet services. Tapacas also mentioned a €980,000 investment in water and sewer network connections, overseen by the Komotini Water and Sewerage Authority (DEYAK).
These advancements assure that the new Komotini Hospital will be completed on time, in line with the planned schedule.
On behalf of Governor Topsidis, Tapacas thanked the Stavros Niarchos Foundation for their donations, highlighting the Foundation's commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the country and the region. Tapacas emphasized, "This new hospital is not just a building, but an investment in all of our lives and health."
