Dedeağaç to host first international photography week from October 31
Alexandroupoli (Dedeağaç) will host its first Photography Week from October 31 to November 8, 2026, bringing together photographers from Türkiye, South Korea and other countries for exhibitions, workshops, talks and discussions on the future of photography.
Organized by the Thrace Creative Photography Centre under the auspices of Greece’s Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Alexandroupoli, the event aims to promote artistic exchange and strengthen international cooperation through photography.
The programme will feature photography exhibitions, artist presentations, panel discussions, conferences, workshops and portfolio reviews. Events will take place at Warehouses 1 and 2 in Alexandroupoli Port and in the former National Bank of Greece building, with organizers seeking to transform different parts of the city into cultural and artistic spaces.
The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., a discussion titled “Photography Today” will bring together Iraklis Papaioannou, Dora Lavazou, Konstantinos Pittas and Irini Kontogeorgiou.
The discussion will explore the role of photography in contemporary society, the impact of technology and artificial intelligence on photographic art, and the future of the profession.
Photographers from Türkiye and South Korea are expected to contribute to the international programme, creating opportunities for cultural exchange and collaboration among artists from different countries.
The Thrace Creative Photography Centre said the initiative was being developed through volunteer participation and collective effort. Its goals include bringing photography closer to the public and establishing a new cultural tradition in Alexandroupoli that can grow and continue on an annual basis.
