Streambed cleaning begins in Yahyabeyli village to prevent flooding

Long-awaited cleaning operations have commenced in the streambeds of Yahyabeyli village, which have caused serious flooding for years—particularly during the winter months.
Located within the jurisdiction of the Maronia–Sapes Municipality in the Rhodope regional unit, the affected streambeds had been a source of repeated concern for local residents. The current efforts aim to minimize future flood risks by clearing debris and improving water flow channels.
The work was inspected on-site by Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Deputy Regional Governor Rıdvan Hacı Mehmet and Maronia–Sapes Mayor Apostolos Ioannou. Their visit reflects the coordinated commitment between municipal and regional authorities to address long-standing infrastructural issues in rural areas.
In a public statement, Deputy Governor Hacı Mehmet noted, “The cleaning of streambeds that have caused serious flooding problems in our village of Yahyabeyli for many years has officially begun.”
The project is expected to improve safety and quality of life for residents while protecting local agricultural areas from seasonal flood damage.
