The Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region will host a series of activities in Gümülcine from September 16 to 22 as part of European Mobility Week 2026, focusing on road safety, sustainable transport and responsible mobility.

The Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region is taking part in European Mobility Week 2026 with a series of events across the region from September 16 to 22, placing road safety, sustainable mobility and responsible road behaviour at the centre of its programme.

The activities include experiential programmes in schools, cycling events, educational and awareness initiatives, as well as activities for children and families, spanning the region from Drama to Meriç (Evros).

Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis invited citizens of all ages to take part, stressing that road safety remains a permanent priority for the region.

According to Topsidis, road safety depends not only on infrastructure but also on knowledge, prevention and responsible behaviour on the road. Particular emphasis is being placed on young people, whose attitudes towards mobility could help shape a different road culture in the years ahead.

In Rhodope (Rodopi), the first event will take place on Wednesday, September 16, at 10:00 a.m. at the office of the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in Gümülcine (Komotini).

The event will be a public online draw among members of the Region's Registry of Sustainable Mobility and Road Safety Ambassadors. A certified random-selection software system will be used to conduct the draw.

Individual participants will compete for prizes including one electric bicycle, three bicycle helmets and a digital “2026 Ambassador Certificate.”

Legal entities participating in the programme will be eligible for a digital badge and honorary distinctions.
