Rhodope remains lowest in bank deposits across Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
Rhodope remains the lowest-ranking regional unit in bank deposits across the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT), with total deposits still below €1 billion, according to Bank of Greece data for the first half of 2026.
Deposits across the region have remained relatively stable. Compared with the first half of 2025, total deposits increased, although they were slightly lower than at the end of 2025, indicating that the period of rapid deposit growth seen between 2019 and approximately 2024 has slowed.
In Rodopi, deposits stood at €979 million at the end of the first half of 2026. This represents an increase of €70 million, or 7.74%, compared with the same period in 2025.
Across the entire Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, deposits reached €6.81 billion, marking an annual increase of €314 million, or 4.84%.
Kavala leads regional deposits
Kavala continues to have the highest level of bank deposits among the region’s regional units. Deposits there reached €1.937 billion in the first half of 2026, an increase of €93 million, or 5.04%, compared with the first half of 2025.
Evros ranked second, with deposits reaching €1.731 billion, up by €42 million, or 2.5%, year-on-year.
Drama followed with €1.113 billion in deposits, an increase of €49 million, or 4.59%, compared with the same period of 2025.
İskeçe recorded €1.049 billion, representing an increase of €60 million, or 6.04%, over the previous year.
Rodopi therefore remains the only regional unit in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace where total bank deposits have not yet exceeded the €1 billion threshold, despite recording the region’s second-highest percentage increase after İskeçe.
