Rhodope MP Özgür Ferhat highlights issues with Land Registry Process in Parliament
During his speech, Ferhat emphasized that the land registration process has become overly expensive and complex for local property owners, putting their rights at risk.
Ferhat pointed out that in the municipalities of Hemetli and Mehrikoz, 60% of property owners have been unable to register their lands due to costs exceeding €10,000. He highlighted how this financial burden makes it nearly impossible for residents to legally register their properties, creating uncertainty.
He also addressed issues with inaccurate forest maps, which have incorrectly classified many private lands as forest areas, leading to heavy fines for property owners. This situation has discouraged many from registering their lands, fearing further financial penalties or the loss of their properties.
Additionally, Ferhat underscored the problem of understaffing in public services, particularly in the Komotini Land Registry Office, which was forced to close due to a lack of personnel. This has further complicated the registration process, leaving local residents without access to essential services.
To address these problems, Ferhat proposed several solutions:
Extending the correction period to give property owners more time to fix registry errors.
Reducing registration costs by lowering notary and administrative fees.
Revising the flawed forest maps to prevent unjust penalties for landowners.
