MP Özgür Ferhat meets with regional agricultural officials and producer representatives
Rhodope MP Özgür Ferhat met with regional agricultural officials and producer representatives to discuss challenges facing farmers in the region, with particular focus on tobacco production losses recorded in 2024 and 2025.
The working meeting was attended by Thrace Tobacco Producers Cooperative President Sinan Ahmet, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Deputy Regional Governor for Agricultural Economy, Primary Sector and Livestock Ridvan Haci Mehmet, Rodopi Directorate of Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Services (DAOK) Director Ekaterini Hatzopoulou and Deputy Director and agricultural engineer Christina Dolaptsoglou.
Participants reviewed damage sustained by tobacco producers over the past two growing seasons, field inspections conducted by authorities and ongoing efforts to document losses. Officials emphasized the importance of accurately recording damages and ensuring that affected producers receive appropriate support.
Discussions also covered broader agricultural challenges facing the region, including measures aimed at strengthening agricultural production, supporting farmers and promoting the sustainable development of the local agricultural sector.
The meeting additionally addressed delays in the processing of declarations submitted through the Eleokomiko Mitroo (Olive Registry System). According to officials, staffing shortages at the Rodopi Agricultural Directorate and slow administrative procedures have contributed to delays in the verification and approval of applications.
Ferhat said he would submit reports and findings from the discussions to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, and would closely monitor efforts to address farmers' concerns and compensation claims.
