Rhodope MP Özgür Ferhat has announced that compensation measures for olive groves and other tree plantations damaged during the 2023 wildfires have been officially published in Greece’s Government Gazette.

Ferhat said the decision follows nearly three years of efforts aimed at securing financial assistance for affected producers through parliamentary initiatives and engagement with relevant ministries.

Under the approved framework, compensation levels will vary according to the extent of damage. Farmers will receive €112 per tree requiring complete removal and replanting, €80 for moderately damaged trees requiring trunk cutting, and €56 for lightly damaged trees.

The support program covers both professional farmers and, under certain conditions, non-professional producers, while agricultural enterprises are also eligible.

Applicants must meet specific registration and insurance requirements, and restoration work must be completed by December 15, 2026. Final payments will be made following inspections by ELGA officials.
