Muftis of Komotini, Xanthi Join "Call for Peace" in Istanbul

The press event aimed to address Israel’s occupation and acts of genocide in Gaza. Among the religious figures present were Komotini Mufti İbrahim Şerif and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa from Western Thrace.
During the press statement, Erbaş emphasized that the gathering was a united voice of humanity's conscience, standing against the ongoing massacres in Palestine. He condemned Israel’s illegal and immoral attacks on Gaza, which have spread across the region and continue with cruelty.
Erbaş shared alarming statistics: over 40,000 innocent civilians have been killed in indiscriminate bombings, including more than 17,000 children, and 100,000 people have been injured. He highlighted the destruction of hospitals, schools, and places of worship, adding that Gaza, a place likened to an open-air prison for years, has now become a graveyard for innocents.
He strongly criticized nations that unconditionally support Israel’s genocidal actions, noting that such backing has emboldened Israel’s aggression. Erbaş also stressed that Israel’s recent attacks on Lebanon and Syria reveal its broader ambition to destabilize the region and seize more land.
Calling on Islamic nations and international bodies such as the United Nations, Erbaş urged immediate action to halt the ongoing genocide in Palestine. He also advocated for the deployment of peacekeeping forces and stressed the urgent need to open humanitarian corridors, such as the Rafah border crossing, to deliver essential supplies to Gaza.
Erbaş reminded the world that stopping oppression is a moral duty for all and added, "The atrocities and genocide occurring in Palestine are not just a Muslim issue but a matter of conscience for all humanity. Israel's illegal actions are crimes against all of humanity."
He also called on anti-Zionist Jews to intensify their fight against the ongoing genocide.
Komotini Mufti İbrahim Şerif and Xanthi Mufti Mustafa Trampa were among the religious figures at the press conference and had the opportunity to meet with Erbaş and other religious leaders. The event, attended by over 50 religious figures and scholars, included notable participants such as Dr. Mervan Ebu Ras from the Muslim Scholars Association-Jerusalem Commission, Dr. Cemal Abdel Sattar, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Sunni Scholars Association, and Bedros Şirinoğlu, Chairman of the Armenian Foundations Union
