Mufti of Komotini Ibrahim Serif issues message for Miraj Night

Ibrahim Serif, the Mufti of Komotini, has released a message for the Miraj Night, which will be observed by Muslim Turks in Western Thrace and the entire Islamic world. The Miraj Night will take place on the night of Sunday, January 26, 2025, marking an important occasion for Muslims worldwide.

Mufti Serif emphasized the significance of this night for the Islamic world in his message, stating:

"Dear Muslim Turkish Brothers,

On the night of Sunday, January 26, 2025, we will observe the Miraj Night. Miraj is one of the greatest miracles in the life of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It occurred approximately one and a half years before the Hijra and represents a sacred journey of the Prophet to higher realms. The term 'Miraj' means 'the tool of ascension' and refers to the act of rising to higher places.

On the night of Miraj, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was taken by the angel Jabrail (peace be upon him) from the Masjid al-Haram to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, then to the heavens, and ultimately to the exalted station of Sidrat al-Muntaha, where the secrets of the celestial realm were revealed to him. The Qur'an describes the beginning of this journey as follows: 'Glory be to the One who took His servant by night from the Masjid al-Haram to the Masjid al-Aqsa, the surroundings of which We have blessed, to show him some of Our signs. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.' (Isra, 17:1)

Miraj, being a miraculous event bestowed by divine power, cannot be explained by human reason. Like other miracles of the prophets, it serves as a source of inspiration for humanity. As Hz. Abu Bakr said: 'What he (the Prophet) said is true,' we have unwavering faith in everything our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has conveyed.

On the night of Miraj, the five daily prayers, which were made obligatory, were a divine gift to the Prophet’s community. Prayer is the first commandment in our religion, the foundation of our faith, and, as our Prophet said, the 'light of our eyes.' Allah Almighty emphasizes the importance of prayer in the Qur'an: 'Recite what is revealed to you from the Book and establish prayer. Verily, prayer forbids immorality and injustice. And the remembrance of Allah is indeed the greatest act of worship. And Allah knows what you do.' (Ankabut, 29:45)

The night of Miraj provides believers with an opportunity to receive divine mercy, engage in worship with a sense of servitude, and make prayers and supplications. On this blessed night, let us repent for our mistakes and sins, and pray for ourselves, our minority, the Islamic world, and all of humanity. Let us value the five daily prayers, the divine gift of Miraj, and all of our worship. Let us not forget that prayer is a spiritual connection between us and our Lord, a kind of ascension.

Dear Fellow Countrymen,

As the Mufti’s office, we work to make the Kandil nights more meaningful within our community by organizing programs in our mosques, including those in the villages of Gümülcine Kır Mahalle, Gebecili, Baraklı, Değirmendere, Büyük Doğanca, Şapçı, and Kartunça Village in the Evros (Meriç) region.

I pray to Allah that this blessed night brings unity and solidarity to the Muslim Turkish Minority of Western Thrace and the entire Islamic world, and that it leads to peace and tranquility for all humanity. I congratulate you all on the occasion of Miraj Night."
