Former president of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union passes away
Sami Toraman, a well-known figure of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority and former president of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union (BTTÖB), passed away on Tuesday, October 28, at his home in Istanbul. He had reportedly been struggling with health issues for some time.
A respected educator and community leader, Toraman made significant contributions to Turkish minority education in Western Thrace throughout his teaching career. He worked tirelessly to preserve and promote cultural values, ensuring their transmission to future generations. As president of the BTTÖB for many years, he played a pioneering role in advancing the educational development of the Turkish minority in the region.
The funeral will take place on Friday, October 31, in Komotini (Gümülcine)—his birthplace and lifelong home—following the afternoon prayer.
