New fraud case uncovered in Western Thrace
The Public Security Unit of the İskeçe Crime Investigation Department successfully solved five separate fraud cases committed between October 19 and 25, 2025, in various areas of İskeçe.
On October 27, 2025, at noon, police arrested three Greek nationals—members of a criminal group involved in phone scams—on the Egnatia Highway between İskeçe and Kavala. The investigation also identified two additional Greek accomplices, who have been included in the case file.
According to the investigation, the perpetrators contacted victims by phone, pretending to be accountants and claiming they could either erase tax debts or secure financial benefits. Using this pretext, they managed to deceive five victims, stealing:
- jewelry and valuables worth approximately €24,500,
- €13,800 in cash, and
- 30 gold coins.
During the operation on October 27, police stopped a private car carrying the three suspects on the Egnatia Highway. Inside, officers discovered a bag containing numerous pieces of jewelry and valuables, which were later returned to their rightful owners.
Further searches at the suspects’ homes and on their persons led to the seizure of:
- €10,550 in cash,
- additional jewelry and valuables (part of which has been returned to victims), and
- several mobile phones used in the scams.
The vehicle used in the fraudulent activities was also confiscated.
The arrested individuals were brought before the competent Prosecutor, while the İskeçe Crime Investigation Department continues to handle the pre-trial investigation.
