İskeçe (Xanthi) MP Hüseyin Zeybek strongly condemned Israel’s actions in Palestine, calling for an immediate end to what he described as genocide. Speaking in the Greek Parliament during a session on the Greece-Argentina sports cooperation agreement, Zeybek also criticized the Greek government’s recent cabinet reshuffle and raised concerns about the deal with Argentina.

Calls for an End to Violence in Gaza
Zeybek began his speech by addressing the ongoing conflict in Gaza, denouncing Israel’s military actions and their devastating impact on civilians.

"This discussion is taking place just after another round of massacres in Gaza, where hundreds of people have lost their lives. We demand an immediate end to this bloodshed, to this genocide. The far-right Israeli government is committing war crimes in Gaza and across Palestine," he declared.

Criticism of the Greek Government
Shifting his focus to domestic politics, Zeybek criticized the recent cabinet reshuffle, particularly the appointment of a new minister whom he accused of being embroiled in financial scandals.

"The so-called ‘champion of meritocracy,’ Doksiadis, was involved in a foreign language book cartel, was part of an organization with €10 million in state debt, and secured €50 million from the Development Fund and Investment Bank through another company," he alleged.

He also revisited the 2023 Tempi train crash, accusing the government of attempting to cover up the tragedy and silence public outrage.

"Prime Minister Mitsotakis has ignored the Greek people’s protests over the crime and cover-up in Tempi. You are trying to shut down the investigation before it even begins. But no matter how hard you try, the truth will come out sooner or later," he warned.

Concerns Over Greece-Argentina Agreement
Zeybek then turned his attention to the Greece-Argentina sports cooperation agreement, questioning why it took two years to bring it before Parliament.

"Why is this agreement, signed in Argentina in February 2023, suddenly being rushed through Parliament now?" he asked.

He also criticized Argentina’s newly elected far-right president, saying:

"As soon as he took office, he cut health and education spending and withdrew his country from the World Health Organization."

Olympic Values and Ceasefire Criticism
Zeybek expressed skepticism about the agreement’s references to Olympic values, peace, and the Olympic Truce.

"These are beautiful words on paper, but they mean nothing in reality. Even during the Paris 2024 Olympics, there was no ceasefire. The Western world has not shown the courage to put an end to this barbarity," he argued.

Women in Sports and Past Olympic Scandals
Touching on gender equality in sports, Zeybek stressed that women’s representation should not be treated as a mere formality.

"Women have fought hard for these rights, and they should not be reduced to a footnote in this agreement," he stated.

Recalling past Olympic scandals, he questioned whether Greece intended to export its past failures to Argentina.

"Are we planning to share the scandals of the 2004 Athens Olympics with Argentina? The overpriced stadiums that were later abandoned?" he asked sarcastically.

A Call for Social Struggles
Concluding his speech, Zeybek highlighted the shared struggles of the Greek and Argentine people against neoliberal policies.

"In both countries, people are taking to the streets to resist policies that are stealing their future. What unites us is the fight for social justice," he affirmed.

His remarks have sparked debate in Parliament, with reactions from both supporters and critics.
