İskeçe water authority warns residents over 50% penalty and tax office debt transfers

The Municipal Water and Sewerage Company of İskeçe (DEYA İskeçe) has issued a warning urging residents to settle overdue debts immediately, following the implementation of stricter regulations under Greece’s new Local Government Code.

According to the announcement, Law 5314/2026 introduces mandatory measures for unpaid debts owed to municipal water authorities, including a 50 percent penalty and the transfer of outstanding debts to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) for compulsory collection.

Under the new regulations, any debt that remains unpaid and outside a repayment arrangement for more than six months after its due date will be subject to an additional penalty equal to 50 percent of the total outstanding amount.

The DEYA İskeçe administration stated that all overdue debts, together with the additional penalty, will be forwarded to AADE, Greece’s tax authority, for enforcement procedures.

Residents urged to enter payment arrangements

DEYA İskeçe called on residents with outstanding payments to immediately apply for a repayment plan in order to avoid additional financial burdens, potential tax identification number restrictions, and the transfer of their debts to the tax authorities.

Residents with overdue obligations are encouraged to contact DEYA İskeçe and apply for a payment arrangement under Article 272 of Law 5314/2026.

The authority also reminded residents who already have an active repayment plan to remain fully compliant, warning that losing the arrangement could automatically trigger the new penalties and debt transfer procedures.

DEYA İskeçe emphasized that early settlement through a payment plan is the only way to avoid the legally imposed 50 percent penalty and additional collection measures.

The authority has provided contact channels for residents seeking information or submitting repayment applications.
