Two Turkish nationals rescued after being swept away by strong waves in Rodopi waters
The Port of Porto Lagos Port Authority was alerted in the afternoon following reports that two foreign swimmers were in difficulty at sea. The two men, who were Turkish nationals, were reportedly being carried away by the waves due to strong winds in the area.
A rescue operation was immediately launched, involving two patrol vehicles from the Hellenic Coast Guard, three fishing boats, and a fast rescue boat from a lifeguard training school.
The two swimmers were eventually rescued by other people who were already in the water. They were found to be in good health and were safely brought back to the shore.
The incident highlights the importance of caution during periods of strong winds and difficult sea conditions, particularly during the summer season when coastal areas experience increased visitor activity.
