Late Mufti M. Emin Aga commemorated at his gravesite
The ceremony, held at the Aşağı Mahalle Cemetery in Xanthi on Monday, September 9 at 18:00, began with the recitation of the Qur'an by Fatih Kocaahmet, the imam of the Karşı Mahalle. Following this, Ahmet Hraloğlu, Deputy Mufti of Xanthi, led the prayer.
Mufti of Xanthi, Mustafa Trampa, gave the opening speech, expressing his gratitude to the attendees and highlighting Mehmet Emin Aga’s significant contributions to the Muslim Turkish cause in Western Thrace, particularly in education. Trampa praised Aga's lifelong struggle for the rights of the minority community.
Musa Vidinli, former Deputy Governor of Xanthi and a close associate of Aga, shared personal memories of both Mustafa Hilmi and Mehmet Emin Aga, praising their leadership qualities. He also mentioned the ongoing work on a book documenting Aga's life and struggle, which is being co-authored with Deputy Mufti Ahmet Hraloğlu.
Following Vidinli, Ozan Ahmetoğlu, President of the Xanthi Turkish Union, Mustafçova Mayor Ahmet Kurt, DEB Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu, Deputy Governor İrfan Hacıgene, and Members of Parliament Burhan Baran and Hüseyin Zeybek delivered brief speeches commemorating the significance of the day.
Mustafa Aga, son of Mehmet Emin Aga and former Mayor of Mustafçova, gave the closing remarks on behalf of the Aga family, thanking all participants for attending.
The memorial was attended by notable figures including Adnan Öztürk, Deputy Consul representing the Turkish Consulate in Komotini, Members of Parliament Burhan Baran and Hüseyin Zeybek, Deputy Governor İrfan Hacıgene, Mustafçova Mayor Ahmet Kurt, Ozan Ahmetoğlu, President of the Xanthi Turkish Union, DEB Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu, and several other municipal and regional officials. Many religious officials from the Xanthi Mufti’s Office and supporters of Mehmet Emin Aga were also present.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer for Mufti Aga and all other deceased individuals who served the cause of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace, with participants reciting Fatiha at the graves of the deceased in the Aşağı Mahalle Cemetery.
