Hundreds gather for Ramadan Iftar in Isiklar Village in Western Thrace
The communal iftar, held on Saturday, March 7, brought together residents of Isiklar and visitors from surrounding villages, reflecting the spirit of unity and solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan.
Strong Participation from Community and Officials
The event attracted broad participation from community members, local leaders, and officials from both Greece and Türkiye.
Among the attendees were Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini, Aykut Ünal, and his wife İlayda Ünal, the Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of İskeçe Mustafa Trampa, Komotini Mufti Ibrahim Serif, and Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party leader Cigdem Asafoğlu.
Other participants included Honorary FEP Party President Işık Sadık Ahmet, Rhodope MP Ozgur Ferhat, members of the Advisory Board, and several local officials.
Delegation from Türkiye Attends Event
A large delegation from Türkiye also attended the gathering, including former Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mustafa Şentop, Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer, and senior judicial and administrative officials from the province.
With the call to prayer marking the end of the daily fast, participants broke their fast together, while the iftar prayer was delivered by Komotini Mufti Ibrahim Serif.
Ramadan Events Strengthen Community Bonds
In his remarks, İskeçe Mufti Mustafa Trampa noted that similar iftar gatherings are being held across many villages in Western Thrace throughout Ramadan, helping to strengthen community ties and solidarity.
Consul General Aykut Ünal highlighted the role of local youth and women in organizing the event and invited attendees to the traditional Eid al-Fitr reception that will be hosted at the Turkish Consulate in Komotini.
Cultural Performances After the Iftar
Following the meal, the program continued with a religious music concert performed by artists from the Edirne State Choir of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as a Sufi sema performance by the Edirne Governorate’s sema ensemble.
Participants later gathered at Isiklar Mosque to perform the evening prayer together.
The event highlighted the importance of Ramadan traditions in strengthening cultural and social ties among the Turkish minority community in Western Thrace.
