“From Baroque to Rock” music event to bring guitar history and live performances to Gümülcine
Music lovers in Gümülcine will gather on May 18 for a special cultural event exploring the evolution of guitar music from the Baroque era to modern rock.
The event, titled “From Baroque to Rock,” is being organized by the Komotini Music School in cooperation with the Municipality of Gümülcine Cultural Department, the Municipal Library, and the En Drasi Social Cooperative.
The program will take place at the Komotini Municipal Library at 19:00 local time and will be open to the public free of charge.
Exploring the Guitar’s Musical Journey
Organizers say the event will present the historical development of the guitar through a wide musical spectrum ranging from Baroque compositions to contemporary rock music.
The program will also showcase the creativity, collaborative work, and live performance skills developed by students during their music education.
The evening will be divided into two parts.
The first section, titled “The Historical Journey of the Guitar,” will feature a presentation in the library’s first-floor event hall led by guitarist, composer, and music educator Dimitris Svindridis.
Student Orchestras to Perform Greek and International Rock Classics
The second part of the event will move to the library’s open-air theater courtyard, where audiences will enjoy live performances by student ensembles.
The first performance will come from the 1st Orchestra Ensemble under the direction of guitar instructor and assistant school director Hrisa Batsivari, highlighting the guitar’s role within orchestral music.
Later in the evening, the rock orchestra ensemble “Parallel Fifths” will perform self-arranged interpretations of well-known Greek and international rock songs.
The event will be hosted by philologist and pianist Kalliopi Grigoropulu.
Cultural Activities Continue in Gümülcine
The concert reflects broader efforts by local cultural institutions in Gümülcine to support youth artistic expression, music education, and public cultural participation through accessible community events.
The combination of classical music history and modern rock performance is expected to attract audiences of different generations and musical backgrounds.
