FEP Party: “The sentence has created great dissatisfaction in society”

The Friendship, Equality, and Peace (FEP) Party has reacted to the court ruling concerning the fatal traffic accident in 2023 that claimed the life of 19-year-old Ayşe Kadri.
In its statement, the party expressed disappointment over the sentence of four years and ten months in prison handed down to the police officer involved in the incident, describing it as insufficient and a source of public dissatisfaction.
The statement read:
“On December 12, 2023, Ayşe, a 19-year-old member of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace, lost her life in Mizanlı village of İskeçe after being struck by a car driven by a police officer. The case has now concluded, with the officer sentenced to four years and ten months in prison. While we have read the court’s decision with respect, we must emphasize that the punishment has understandably created great dissatisfaction in the public conscience.
Reports indicated that the driver fled the scene after the accident and later gave misleading statements. This means the incident was not only a traffic accident but also a violation of the principles of responsibility and integrity expected from a public official. This has caused a deep wound in the sense of justice, both within Ayşe’s family and across our community.
During the trial, citizens gathered outside the courthouse chanting ‘Justice for Ayşe,’ demonstrating that this matter is not only about the loss of one family but about the entire community’s expectation of justice. We strongly echo this demand.
The sanctity of human life, the rule of law, and the principle of equal citizenship are non-negotiable values. As FEP Party, we expect the judicial process to be conducted transparently, impartially, and without discrimination, with all avenues of appeal being fairly pursued. Furthermore, we call for a thorough administrative and disciplinary investigation into the case, along with the strengthening of deterrent measures and monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar tragedies in the future.”
