Woman detained and fined €2,964 for causing fire in Dimetoka
A Greek national woman was detained in Dimetoka, Meriç, after allegedly causing dry grass to catch fire, according to local authorities. She was also issued an administrative fine of €2,964.84.
The woman was detained on Wednesday, August 12, by officers from the Dimetoka Fire Service Investigation Unit under the flagrant-offense procedure.
According to information available, she is accused of causing dry vegetation to burn in an area within the boundaries of the Municipality of Dimetoka.
Authorities said the incident constituted a violation of Greece’s legislation on fire prevention and firefighting.
€2,964.84 administrative fine imposed
In addition to the detention, judicial proceedings were initiated against the woman.
Investigators from the Dimetoka Fire Service also imposed an administrative fine of €2,964.84 in connection with the incident.
Greek authorities have intensified inspections during the fire season, particularly targeting activities in open areas that could increase the risk of wildfires.
Officials have reiterated that sanctions will be imposed promptly on individuals who violate fire-safety regulations.
