Özgür Ferhat raises Rhodope drinking water projects in parliament

In a parliamentary question submitted to the Ministry of Interior, Ferhat called for detailed information on projects aimed at renewing, modernising and expanding drinking water networks across settlements in Rodopi.

The parliamentary question stresses that uninterrupted access to safe and high-quality drinking water is a fundamental social right and that ensuring this access is a core responsibility of the state.

Ferhat pointed to ageing drinking water networks, frequent breakdowns and water losses in several settlements across Rodopi, while noting that the need to modernise existing infrastructure remains ongoing.

Ferhat asks for details on project status
Ferhat said numerous projects targeting drinking water infrastructure in Rodopi have been announced or supported in recent years through national and European Union funding programmes.

However, he argued that the public has not received comprehensive and up-to-date information about the current status of these projects.

His parliamentary question asks the Ministry of Interior to provide:

• Details of all drinking water projects completed in Rodopi since 2023, including their budgets and funding sources.
• The current status of ongoing drinking water network renewal, modernisation and expansion projects.
• Information on newly approved or planned projects, including the responsible authorities, budgets and expected completion dates.
• The ministry’s overall strategy for ensuring adequate and high-quality drinking water across all settlements in Rhodope.

“Access to drinking water is a fundamental right”
Commenting on the issue, Ferhat said residents of Rhodope have the right to know which drinking water projects have been completed, which remain underway and what investments are planned for the future.

“Access to safe and high-quality drinking water is not a privilege but a fundamental right that must be guaranteed for everyone,” Ferhat said, stressing the need to implement water infrastructure modernisation without delay.

Through his parliamentary question, the Rhodope MP aims to increase transparency over investments, funding sources and completion timelines related to drinking water infrastructure projects across the region.
