Closure of railway ticket offices: Support resolution from Xanthi Municipal Council
Concern over the impact on the local community and employees' families
During its session on February 24, 2025, the Xanthi Municipal Council unanimously issued a resolution in support of railway ticket office employees, following the decision to close 34 ticket offices by the end of March. This decision threatens the livelihoods of 200 families and raises serious concerns about its effects on the railway network and passenger services.
According to the resolution, closing the ticket offices will degrade service quality and endanger support for vulnerable passenger groups, such as people with disabilities and the elderly, who rely on station staff. Additionally, passengers will lose direct access to information regarding delays and schedule changes, while refund and special ticket issuance procedures will become more difficult.
The Municipal Council calls for the decision to be revoked and for physical ticket offices to be maintained while simultaneously developing electronic services for improved passenger support.
