Minority high school student from Gümülcine takes part in Greek Youth Parliament
Serra Molla Ali Memet represented Gümülcine Minority Secondary School in the Greek Youth Parliament, joining young participants from Greece, Cyprus and abroad in discussions on human rights, artificial intelligence and the challenges facing younger generations.
Serra Molla Ali Memet, a student at Gümülcine Minority Secondary School (Komotini Minority Gymnasium–Lyceum), represented her school at the Greek Youth Parliament, an initiative that gives young people an opportunity to express their views and discuss contemporary social issues.
During the programme, she joined fellow students from across Greece, Cyprus and other countries to exchange perspectives on issues affecting younger generations, with particular emphasis on human rights and artificial intelligence (AI).
Beyond the formal discussions, the experience allowed participants to build new friendships, exchange ideas and gain first-hand experience of democratic dialogue, highlighting the importance of youth participation, critical thinking and social responsibility.
'AN EXPERIENCE THAT CHANGES THE WAY WE SEE THE WORLD'
Describing her participation, Serra Molla Ali Memet said the experience would remain with her throughout her life.
"For a few days, we left our classroom desks behind and became co-creators of our own future. Inside the halls of Parliament, the voice of our generation was heard loud and clear," she said.
She added that discussions covered a range of contemporary challenges, from human rights to artificial intelligence, demonstrating that young people are not indifferent to social developments but have their own opinions, aspirations and proposals.
However, she described meeting other participants as the most valuable part of the experience.
"I met young people from every corner of Greece, Cyprus and abroad. We exchanged concerns, disagreed with arguments and, above all, learned what democratic dialogue means in practice," she said.
Returning to her school, she said she was taking with her unforgettable memories, new friendships and a strong belief that meaningful social change begins with active participation.
SCHOOL EXPRESSES PRIDE IN STUDENT'S ACHIEVEMENT
In a joint statement, the administration and teaching staff of Gümülcine Minority Secondary School expressed their pride and emotion over the student's participation in the Greek Youth Parliament.
They described her involvement in the initiative as not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the values the school seeks to promote, including critical thinking, democratic dialogue and social responsibility.
The school representatives also stressed that young people should not be regarded merely as the future of society, but as an active part of its present.
"When given the opportunity to speak, they demonstrate that they possess mature thinking, well-founded opinions and a clear vision for a better world," the statement said.
The school administration and teachers added that they would continue supporting initiatives that broaden students' horizons and encourage them to become active and socially conscious citizens.
