The Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, presented the implemented and planned projects for the Regional Unit of Xanthi during a press conference held on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Xanthi Administration Building.

Mr. Topsidis emphasized that the current administration inherited several delayed and problematic projects, which have since been set in motion with a focus on timely and proper execution. "From the beginning of our term until today, we are implementing and planning projects and actions totaling €68.63 million. These are essential projects that provide significant benefits to the local and regional economy and support our fellow citizens," he stated. “Our aim is for the benefits of every project, every investment, every initiative to reach the residents, the youth, and every productive sector.”

Collaborations and Acknowledgements
The Regional Governor extended his gratitude to the Deputy Regional Governor of Xanthi, Ms. Polyxeni Brika; the Deputy Regional Governor for Transport, Communications, and Best Practices in Citizen Services, Mr. Irfan Chatzigenes; the Regional Councilor and Chair of the Gender Equality Committee, Ms. Vasiliki Pavlakaki; the Regional Councilor responsible for the mountainous area and intercultural development, Mr. Giourouk Salih; the Councilor for Citizen Services and Vulnerable Social Groups, Mr. Amoutska Ibrahim; and the Councilor for Development Planning, Mr. Ismailko Fatih. He also thanked public service officials, special advisors, and the media for their cooperation.

Focus Areas and Priorities
Mr. Topsidis highlighted key sectors such as infrastructure (road construction, flood protection, water supply, road safety, and protection of life, livestock, property, and the environment), primary production (agriculture with a focus on land consolidation, livestock farming, fisheries, and lagoons), health, and education.

He gave special mention to the Dimario–Rudozem vertical axis and the Region’s actions on its section of responsibility. Additionally, he addressed demographic challenges, initiatives to support entrepreneurship, and programs for vulnerable social groups.

He also discussed the establishment of a Climate Change Observatory and improvements in civil protection equipment, noting that wildfires in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace have increased this year. Furthermore, Mr. Topsidis referred to ground and aerial mosquito control efforts, as data shows significantly higher mosquito density in the region compared to the rest of the country.

Culture, Tourism, and Public Services
Targeted actions were presented in the fields of tourism, culture, and sports, alongside ongoing efforts to staff public services more effectively.

Mr. Topsidis also highlighted the Region’s outstanding performance in the NSRF (National Strategic Reference Framework), with Eastern Macedonia and Thrace ranking among the top nationally. He noted the implementation of 23 European programs with a total budget of €10 million.

Visit to Geothermiki Ellados in Neo Erasmio
Following the press conference, Mr. Topsidis visited the company Geothermiki Ellados in Neo Erasmio, Xanthi. The company is receiving €531,000 through a regional NSRF program aimed at enhancing the energy efficiency of existing manufacturing businesses.

During the visit, he was briefed on how the company utilizes geothermal energy to dehydrate and process premium fruits and vegetables. “We are supporting Geothermiki Ellados so it can continue to innovate, produce, and contribute to local development,” stated Mr. Topsidis.

Next Stop: Kavala
On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Mr. Topsidis will present the development plan for the Regional Unit of Kavala, concluding his tour across all Regional Units of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
