A total of 67 blood donors from Xanthi were honored at the Hellenic Parliament as part of a national recognition ceremony. The event took place on Friday, May 9, in the Plenary Hall of the Greek Parliament, marking the first time such a ceremony was held in this prestigious setting.
Among those recognized were:
Metin Karahoca (66 units),
Orhan Kehaya Lütfü (65 units),

Sedat Mehmet Belük (50 units),
who stood out for their extraordinary commitment to voluntary blood donation.
The event was jointly organized by the Federation of Associations of Voluntary Blood Donors of Greece (P.O.S.E.A.) and the Greek Parliament. In total, 300 voluntary blood donors from across the country were awarded for having donated more than 50 units of blood.
The "I AGAPI" Association of Voluntary Blood Donors of Xanthi was especially highlighted, with 67 of its members receiving recognition. University student groups known for organizing donation campaigns were also among the honorees.
MP Burhan Baran’s Congratulations
Independent MP for Xanthi, Dr. Burhan Baran, issued a written statement on his personal social media, expressing gratitude and congratulations to the donors:
“First of all, I want to emphasize that I have always supported the activities of the Agapi Blood Donation Association in Xanthi and will continue to do so. Whether members of the minority or the majority, the efforts of this association and others in securing blood supplies through cooperation with hospitals are truly commendable.
Last week, certificates of honor and distinction were awarded in the Hellenic Parliament to the most dedicated members of the association. This event was a powerful symbol of both the spirit of volunteerism and the value placed on human life.
I would like to personally mention and thank a few outstanding individuals representing our minority community:
Metin Karahoca – 66 units
Orhan Kehaya Lütfü – 65 units
Seden Kehaya – 51 units
Sedat Mehmet Belük – 50 units
As a physician, a healthcare professional, and a member of parliament, I feel immense pride and joy at the level of participation and awareness shown by our community. We must remember that in order to find blood when needed, we must also be donors ourselves. By acting with this awareness, we strengthen social solidarity and help save lives.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Agapi Blood Donation Association and everyone involved, and I wish them continued success in their work.”
Dr. Burhan Baran
