US approves possible military equipment sale to Greece
According to a statement from the US Department of State, the potential sale includes Switchblade 300 Block 20 mini unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and associated support equipment. Washington said the deal would strengthen the security of a NATO ally that continues to play a role in maintaining political and economic stability in Europe.
The US administration stated that the proposed sale would enhance Greece’s ability to deter current and future threats, support coalition operations, and improve interoperability with US forces. It added that the transfer is not expected to alter the existing military balance in the region.
The Switchblade 300 is a small loitering munition designed to be operated by a single soldier and launched from a tube system. The Block 20 variant can remain airborne for at least 20 minutes and, with an extended-range antenna system, can engage targets up to 30 kilometers away.
The system has been used by US special operations forces for more than a decade and is designed to provide precision strike capabilities against tactical targets.
