The European Commission has approved €787.7 million in low-interest defense loans for Greece under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program.
The European Commission has approved €787.7 million in low-interest defense loans for Greece under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program.
SAFE, with a total budget of €150 billion, is designed to strengthen Europe’s defense capacity by supporting the purchase and production of military equipment.
So far, 19 EU member states have applied for loans, including Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Italy, and others. The program offers favorable repayment terms, including a 10-year grace period.
Greece has requested a total of €1.2 billion, mainly to boost its air defense systems.
