A U.S. military attack and air bombardment on Venezuela sparked strong reactions in Greece, with hundreds of protesters taking to the streets of Athens to condemn what they described as an imperialist intervention.

Reports alleging that strategic targets in Caracas were bombed and that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores were detained triggered public outrage. Demonstrators gathered at Eleftheria Park before marching to the U.S. Embassy in Athens, chanting slogans against the attack.

The protest was organized by civil society groups and left-wing parties, with participation from the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). Marchers carried banners reading “Hands off the Venezuelan people,” “Venezuela will not become the U.S.’s Vietnam in Latin America,” and “We are all Venezuelans.”

Expressions of solidarity with Palestine were also prominent during the demonstration, as protesters waved Palestinian flags and voiced opposition to broader U.S. regional policies.

In a written statement, the KKE accused the United States of violating international law, saying that “the U.S. is shedding blood in Venezuela as well, but the Venezuelan people will ultimately prevail.”
