Three deaths from influenza and two from COVID-19 were recorded in Greece during the period February 9–15, according to the latest epidemiological report issued by the National Public Health Organization (EODY).

The report notes that flu positivity in the community continues to decline, while COVID-19 infection rates remain stable nationwide.

Influenza-like illness (ILI)

The number of influenza-like illness (ILI) cases per 1,000 medical visits showed a further decrease compared to the previous week, indicating a continued downward trend in flu activity.

Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI)

The number of SARI cases per 1,000 hospital admissions also declined compared to the previous week.

COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2)

The positivity rate from all SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests conducted across the country showed no significant change compared to the previous week.

During the reporting period:

93 new COVID-19 hospital admissions were recorded, slightly down from 101 the previous week.

One new patient required intubation.

Two new deaths were attributed to COVID-19.

Influenza

Flu positivity in the community, as estimated by the Primary Health Care Sentinel surveillance network, continued its downward trend during week 07/2026. A decrease was also recorded in secondary healthcare settings through the SARI surveillance network.

New influenza hospital admissions dropped significantly, with 236 new admissions compared to 360 during week 06/2026.

Additionally:

Eight new severe laboratory-confirmed flu cases required admission to intensive care units (ICU).

Three new deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were reported.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)

RSV positivity in the community (Sentinel primary care network) declined compared to the previous week. However, an increase was observed in hospitals participating in the SARI surveillance network.

EODY recommends vaccination for individuals aged over 75 and for those belonging to high-risk groups, in accordance with the National Immunization Program.

Health authorities continue to monitor respiratory virus trends closely and urge vulnerable populations to follow vaccination guidance and preventive measures.
