Cases of seasonal flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are rising sharply across Greece, while COVID-19 infections remain stable, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said.

The increase is mainly affecting children and vulnerable groups. Wastewater surveillance for Dec. 22–28 showed a strong rise in flu A cases in several cities, with the largest increases recorded in Thessaloniki and Ioannina.

Hospitals are also seeing higher admissions, particularly in pediatric units. At Athens’ Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital, admissions rose by 15% over the Jan. 3–4 weekend.

Health officials said the peak of the seasonal wave is expected in late January or early February, though current levels remain lower than at the same time last year. Authorities continue to urge vaccination and basic preventive measures.
