EODY urges timely COVID-19 vaccination for vulnerable groups

Despite the improvement in the overall epidemiological situation, COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to the elderly and individuals with underlying health conditions, according to Greece’s National Public Health Organization (EODY).

EODY is calling on citizens belonging to vulnerable groups to get vaccinated promptly ahead of the 2025–2026 season, emphasizing that while infections now tend to present more mildly, severe hospitalizations and deaths still occur.

Based on the recommendations of the National Vaccination Committee, priority for vaccination is given to:

  • Individuals aged 60 and above,
  • Adults and children over six months with underlying health conditions,
  • Immunocompromised individuals,
  • Pregnant women with preexisting conditions, and
  • Healthcare professionals.

For the upcoming season, vaccination will be carried out with a single dose of the updated LP.8.1 vaccine (mRNA Pfizer/BioNTech, Comirnaty). A second dose is recommended six months later for people over 75 years of age. Appointments can be booked through the emvolio.gov.gr platform or at pharmacies.

EODY also reminded the public of the importance of preventive measures — staying home while recovering, maintaining good hand and respiratory hygiene, ensuring frequent ventilation, and, for those in high-risk groups, wearing masks in crowded areas.

“Timely vaccination of our vulnerable citizens saves lives and strengthens our collective shield against COVID-19,” EODY stated.
