Greece reports milder respiratory infections as flu season continues
Respiratory infections in Greece appear to be milder this season than last year, with the dominant influenza A(H3) subclade K strain showing high transmissibility but no evidence of increased clinical severity, according to the National Public Health Organization (EODY).
Data from surveillance in the Southern Hemisphere indicate that the subclade K strain spreads efficiently but has not been associated with more severe illness.
Flu season yet to reach its peak
Seasonal influenza activity in Greece has not yet peaked, while sporadic A(H3) cases and intensive care unit admissions continue to be reported.
Low levels of Covid-19 infections have also been detected, according to health authorities.
Authorities stress importance of vaccination
EODY is urging the public to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza, Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to reduce the risk of severe illness and complications.
Health officials continue to monitor respiratory virus activity as the season progresses, highlighting vaccination as a key measure to protect vulnerable groups and ease pressure on healthcare services.
