Striking comment from expert: Greeks still fear Turks
In a guest appearance on Haberler.com's YouTube studio, Dr. Küçük examined the influence of Turkish phobia and anti-Turkish sentiment within Greek politics. She pointed out that Greek national identity was established in opposition to the Turks, a sentiment that has persisted throughout history and continues to be central to the Türkiye-Greece conflict today.
Dr. Küçük appeared on the Altı Yedi program alongside Dr. Alihan Limoncuoğlu from Marmara University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Fuat Tuncer from Istanbul Gelişim University.
"TURKISH FEAR PERSISTS IN GREEK DOMESTIC POLITICS"
Responding to the question about the extent of Turkish fear and anti-Turkish sentiment in Greek domestic politics, Dr. Küçük stated, "Turkish fear in Greek domestic politics has always persisted and seems likely to continue. The fundamental issue here is that Greek identity was established in opposition to the Turks and the Ottoman Empire. Throughout history, Greece expanded eastward to gain territory from the Ottomans. Today, this four-century Ottoman rule is referred to as 'Turkish rule' in Greece and is portrayed as a dark period where Greek identity was suppressed. In fact, we even see instances where parts of the Ottoman period are erased from history books. Therefore, it must be said that these continually constructed opposing identities still play a central role in the Turkey-Greece conflict today."
