Public frustration over inflation and corruption grows, but ND still ahead in voting intentions
The ruling New Democracy (ND) party continues to hold a significant lead in voter intention, according to a new GPO survey conducted for Star Channel. ND secures 25.2 percent, maintaining a commanding advantage over PASOK, which trails at 12.6 percent.
Greek Solution ranks third with 10.4 percent, followed by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) at 8.5 percent and Course of Freedom at 5.8 percent. SYRIZA registers 4.1 percent, while Voice of Reason reaches 3 percent.
Smaller parties — including Niki, Movement for Democracy, MeRA25 and the New Left — score between 1.5 and 2.3 percent. Another 7.7 percent of respondents opt for alternative parties, and 13.3 percent remain undecided.
Economic pressure dominates public concerns
The survey reveals deepening anxiety over household finances: 62.8 percent of participants cite inflation and pressure on incomes as their primary concern. Corruption follows at 15.9 percent, with health services and immigration trailing behind.
Government performance is viewed unfavorably by 70.6 percent of respondents, while 66.4 percent say the OPEKEPE agricultural subsidy scandal has further eroded their trust.
PASOK’s role as the main opposition also receives poor marks, with 81.7 percent expressing a negative assessment of its performance.
Leadership preferences and political scenarios
When asked about their preferred prime minister after the next elections, 27.2 percent choose current premier Kyriakos Mitsotakis and a continuation of New Democracy governance. However, a substantial 70.8 percent express a desire for a different government.
The poll also gauges public reaction to rumors of a new political party led by former prime minister Alexis Tsipras. While 11.8 percent say they would be very likely to vote for such a party and 10 percent somewhat likely, 65.1 percent reject the possibility outright.
A similar survey in September showed New Democracy holding nearly the same lead, with economic strain remaining the predominant issue for Greek citizens.
