Farmers from across Greece are set to drive tractors into central Athens on Friday for a mass protest at Syntagma Square, planning to park dozens of vehicles outside Parliament.

The mobilisation was called by a nationwide committee coordinating roadblocks. Organisers said tractors are expected to begin arriving around 1500 local time, with the main rally scheduled for 1600. Protesters plan to remain overnight and depart by midday Saturday.

Labour unions, which held a separate rally earlier Friday against a government bill on collective labour agreements, said they would stay on to show solidarity.

Police announced traffic measures across central Athens and the wider Attica region, warning of significant congestion on key routes including the Athens–Corinth and Athens–Lamia highways, Athinon Avenue and major downtown roads.

Farmers say their core demands include lower production costs, guaranteed prices for agricultural goods, reforms to the ELGA state insurance system and full compensation for crop losses. They argue the issues remain unresolved despite recent talks with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Traffic arrangements will come into effect from Friday morning across the wider Athens city centre and on major roads throughout Attica, ahead of planned rallies and agricultural protests.

The Police said the measures would be implemented gradually, depending on prevailing conditions.

Motorists are being advised to avoid driving or parking in central Athens where possible and to follow directions from traffic officers to prevent additional congestion.
