Families of victims of the train crash in Tempi demonstrate
Families and relatives of those who lost their lives in the train accident that occurred on 28 February in the Tempi region of Larisa city held a protest demonstration to express their quest for justice.
Demonstrators gathered in Syntagma Square, where the parliament building in the capital Athens is also located, and expressed their anger that those responsible for the incident, in which 57 people died, have still not been brought to justice.
The demonstrators carried banners and placards reading "Justice" and "Murder not an accident" and demanded punishment for those responsible.
In his speech, the father of a person who lost his life in the train accident said, "After the loss of our loved ones, the fact that those responsible are not punished and this tragedy is covered up increases our pain even more. We demand justice because the injustice done to these families hurts the conscience of the society."
The demonstration, where the names of the victims of the accident were read one by one, ended with the placing of flowers in front of the photos of the accident victims surrounded by candles.
At the end of February, 57 people were killed in Tempi when a passenger train collided with a freight train, some wagons derailed and the front wagons were burnt.
