A 41-year-old Turkish inmate was fatally stabbed during a violent altercation at Larissa (Nea Ionia) Prison in central Greece on Sunday afternoon, according to local news outlet Onlarissa.gr.

The incident occurred while inmates were in the prison yard. A 29-year-old Greek inmate reportedly attacked the Turkish prisoner with a homemade knife after an argument broke out for reasons that have yet to be determined. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds.

Despite being rushed to Larissa University Hospital, the injured man succumbed to his injuries approximately two hours later.

The suspected attacker has been taken into custody and is expected to appear before the public prosecutor on Monday.
